Disney Channel Star Selena Gomez
Selena Gomez was named after the "original" Selena, Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, who was quite popular in the early 1990s before her untimely death in 1995. She is of mixed Italian and Mexican ancestry.
Selena grew up with her mother after her parents divorced. They were quite poor, but Selena's mother (who had Selena at the tender age of 16) was involved in local theater. This got Selena interested as well, and she began auditioning and getting roles at first locally, and then in Hollywood.

Small roles in "Walker, Texas Ranger: Trial by Fire" (2005) and "Spy Kids 3-D<" (2003) came along. However, Selena had a bit of a dry spell for several years, nabbing only occasional appearances on television movies and the like.
These small roles, however, served a purpose: they led to Selena's big breakthroughs in "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody," a Disney Channel television series, and also "Hannah Montana" with Miley Cyrus. Just about every tween girl in the country watched these shows, and that was how an aspiring actress could get noticed.
All that success, though, was just a warmup for her real stroke of success as the star of the Disney Channel series "Wizards of Waverly Place." This series, which ran from 2007 to 2009, cemented Selena's status as the icon of an entire generation of young girls. Playing Alex Russo is the role for which Selena remains best known. It made her a superstar among the tween set and a frontline soldier in Disney's efforts to reach out to kids.
Selena, meanwhile, recorded the theme to "Wizards," and this opened the opportunity to branch out into a successful singing career. It also opened the door for her to date Nick Jonas and star in some of the videos for the Jonas Brothers, then riding high.
Selena capitalized on her musical connections by forming her own group, starring as the headliner of "Selena Gomez & The Scene." Her albums have found success in the Billboard Magazine 200, and one of her singles, "Love You Like a Love Song," was certified 4x Platinum by the RIAA.
A subsequent single, "Come & Get It," was a Top Ten single on the Billboard Hot 100.

After the end of "Wizards," Selena was worn out. In January 2012, she announced that she was taking a break from music. It did not last long, however.
By late 2012, Selena was working on an album. This material, however, did not involve her backing band, just her own solo efforts. "Come & Get It" was the lead single, and hit the top ten.
The album, "Star Dance," debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard album chart. Ultimately, it sold hundreds of thousands of copies.
Selena's career was going great, and she decided that she needed more professional management. In April 2014, Selena fired her mother and stepfather from managing her career.
In late 2014, Selena's single "The Heart Wants What It Wants" became her second top ten. It preceded a solo compilation album, "For You," which did not do very well. Selena switched labels from Hollywood Records to Interscope Records in December 2014.
Working under contract to Interscope, Selena sang a duet with Zedd that went top twenty in early 2015. In June, she released the lead single from her upcoming second album, "Revival," and it went top five on the Billboard Hot 100.
Selena's second album, "Revival," dropped on October 9, 2015, and debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. It sold 117,000 album units in just its first week and wound up selling just about the same number of units overall as "Stars Dance," at a little over 400,000 units.
Selena went on her worldwide "Revival Tour" in May 2016. However, it did not go well for Selena, because she canceled the European and South American legs after touring North America, Asia, and Oceania. She stated that the cancellation was due to complications from a case of lupus.
Selena's lupus - a chronic autoimmune disease that has symptoms of fatigue and fevers - flared up in 2017 and required emergency measures. In September 2017, Gomez received a donor kidney from her best friend and fellow actress Francia Raisa.
Selena then checked into rehab to look into her mental health. This appeared to go well, and by 2017 she was recording again.
Selena's next single, a collaboration with Norwegian DJ Kygo, was entitled "It Ain't Me," dropped on February 16, 2017. It also went top ten.
Selena also has become an endorsement star. She has had major deals with Adidas, Coca-Cola, Louis Vuitton, and Coach.

Among Selena's talents is doing voice work. She voices Mavis in the "Hotel Transylvania" films, a successful series on its third outing.
Selena also has worked with Woody Allen, though at this time the name of the project is unavailable.
Selena has her own fashion line called "Dream Out Loud." It is available in K-Mart.
Selena also has her own fragrance, "Selena Gomez by Selena Gomez."
Selena is a big fan of "Alice in Wonderland" (1951).
After breaking with Justin Bieber, Selena has dated Canadian singer The Weeknd.
I don't actually like dates. I get awkward as I never know what to do.
I'm going to be Katy Perry for Halloween. I'm going to have the blue hair and the ice cream outfit she did. It's going to be awesome.
Be yourself always, there's no one better!
