Yana Gupta (born Yana Synkova on 23 April 1979) is a Czech model, actress and author. Yana currently is based in Mumbai. She is a best known as a very successful actress in Bollywood films.
Yana is from Brno, Czechoslovakia. She began modelling at the age of 16. She was in Japan for a number of years, then went to India around 2001 on her own to study meditation at Pune, Maharashtra, India, and also to marry Satyakam Gupta (divorced 2005).
While there, she resumed her modelling career and soon was representing Lakme, the giant Indian cosmetics brand, replacing Lisa Ray. Along the way, Yana has modeled for high profile clients including Calvin Klein, Victoria's Secret, Toyota, Honda, Sony, and cosmetic products such as Nivea, Rexona, Shuemura, and Shisheido.
Yana entered the Bollywood film industry in 2003 in the film 'Dum.' It was an amazing debut.
Replacing another girl, Yana was in an 'item number,' which in Bollywood means she sang a song that was inserted sort of like putting a musical number fairly randomly in the middle of 'Star Wars.'
Bollywood filmmakers do that to spice up otherwise mundane films, and Yana's item number, 'Babuji Zara Dheere Chalo,’ became very popular.
That strikingly successful debut led to a string of Bollywood appearances where Yana would show up to do sexy dances with a crowd of background dancers and the like.
Yana is the TV Anchor of a musical countdown show on Zoom TV. She is quite confident in her abilities, saying:
I have not strutted my stuff yet. If I start showing off and try to look sexy, many actresses will not get a sound sleep. Till now, whatever I did was just the tip of the iceberg. The day I will show the whole iceberg, no one will stand any competition against me.Yana is associated with Indiagames and is featured in their games, puzzles, and other merchandise.
Yana appeared in a Adnan Sami music video for a song called "Kisi Din."
Yana has represented Kingfisher Airlines and 7-Up.
Yana hasn't made many appearance lately. Her latest credit was in television miniseries "Life Mein Ek Baar," playing herself.
