Is Perrie Edwards the Next Victoria Beckham?
Perrie Louise Edwards is a British singer who was born 10 July 1993 (age 20). She is from South Shields, Tyne and Wear. Perrie is the blonde member of "Little Mix," a British girl group that was formed for the 2011 eighth series of the British X Factor competition. The other members of Little Mix are Jessica "Jesy" Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall.
Perrie's first audition was "You Oughta Know" by Alanis Morissette. After being chosen for the group, Perrie helped guide them to become the first group to win the competition. Chart success has followed, particularly in the UK, where two of their singles have gone to No. 1. Little Mix is signed in the United States with Columbia Records. They have sold over two million records around the world. Their debut album, "DNA," was released in November 2012 and was a worldwide hit, while they are known for their hit singles "Cannonball" and "Wings."
It is easy to draw comparisons between Little Mix and both The Spice Girls and Girls Aloud. Like Little Mix, Girls Aloud was formed for a television show, "Popstars: The Rivals," back in 2002. While the groups were not overwhelmingly successful as musical acts, they spawned a number of stars such as Perrie.
Girls Aloud was in some ways the heirs to the Spice Girls, who essentially had broken up by then. Girls Aloud had tremendous chart success in the UK before disbanding in 2013, leaving the road clear for their successors, Little Mix.
Both groups follow in the giant footsteps of The Spice Girls, and Perrie sometimes brings to mind "Posh Spice," Victoria Beckham, because she is the "pretty one."
One thing is clear, Perrie smiles a whole lot more than Victoria ever did (or does).
Edwards recently became engaged to marry One Direction member Zayn Malik, who has been the subject of many tabloid rumors about his supposed infidelity. He proposed to Perrie on 18 August 2013.
