Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen Know How to Rock Black LeatherMary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were those adorable little moppets on "Full House" back when the world was young. Well, now they are fashion moguls and so successful that they even have turned their backs on their old show!
Strangely enough, the twins aren't identical. Even though they look a lot alike, they are fraternal twins.
Ashley has freckles above her lip, and is right-handed.
Mary-Kate has no freckles above her lip and is left-handed.
Fans of the show got confused because Michelle would do things with both hands. So ambidextrous! But really, it was just the two girls doing things as they came naturally.
The "Full House" show billed them as one person - "Mary-Kate Ashley Olsen" - in an apparent attempt to hide that there were actually two of them.
The show lasted so long that the twins grew up and could be told apart by sharp-eyed fans (I still have trouble telling them apart).
The producers were in a quandrary and tentatively decided to give the role to just one of them. However, John Stamos would have none of it.
Stamos demanded that the show keep both Mary-Kate and Ashley. So, Ashley wasn't fired as intended.
Stamos wasn't always so nice to them. When they cried in Season One, Stamos almost got them fired for good.
Mary-Kate is the funny one, and Ashley is the serious one. At least on the show.
The twins spent almost no time in Los Angeles. It was strictly an LA production except for one episode in season eight, "Comet's Excellent Adventure."
Comet, incidentally, was their dog.
The two have become big moguls since the show. They teamed up with jewelry designer Robert Lee Morris in May 2008 to create a line of accessories, but they already had a clothing company by that point.
For the period June 2006 - May 2007, the two twins were named to the Forbes magazine's annual list of Top-Earning Stars Under 25. They made $17 million.
The two launched the "Elizabeth & James" clothing line in September 2007.
They like to wear fur and leather, and thus were named to PETA's worst-dressed list in November 2006.
They are of Danish descent.
