Rihanna Is Her NameRihanna is famous for her wild appearance. Her notorious appearance at the 2008 American Music Awards stands out in the annals of leather girl style. Sometimes, it seems that her singing is only a hobby and her true passion is her eclectic sense of fashion. But she can sing like the angels.

Rihanna was born Robyn Rihanna Fenty on February 20, 1988, in St. Michael Parish on the Caribbean island of Barbados. So, yes, Rihanna is her real name.

Her mother Monica is an accountant, and Ronald Fenty is a warehouse supervisor.
Mom and dad divorced when she was 14, but he and Rihanna remained tight.
Rihanna suffered from migraine headaches as a child. Apparently, she grew out of it. Well, hopefully she grew out of it.
At the age of 15, Rihanna formed a girl group with two classmates, and they quickly scored an audition with music producer Evan Rodgers, who was visiting the island with his Barbadian wife.
Rodgers liked their sound.
That is, Rodgers like Rihanna's sound. The other two girls were told to hit the pavement.
Less than a year later, with Rihanna 16 years old, she left Barbados to move in with Rogers and his wife in Connecticut and work on recording a demo album. It was all very cozy.
A year or so later, Rodgers worked his magic. He got Rihanna an audition with Jay-Z of Def Jam. He liked her sound, too.
Having talent makes life a lot easier.
Eight months later, in August 2005, Rihanna released her first single, "Pon de Replay." It was a reggae-influenced club track that landed at No. 2 on the Billboard singles chart
"Music of the Sun," released later that month, reached No. 10 on the Billboard albums chart and also featured the single "If It's Lovin' That You Want." Everything did well.
The rest, as they say, is history.
